The use of the Breath to access heightened states of consciousness for healing and reaching union with the Divine is found in all cultures and religions and is very ancient. In many languages, the words for “breath” and “spirit” or “soul” are the same.
The conscious breathing technique called Rebirthing was developed in the 1970’s and soon became very popular in the West for personal and spiritual development. Rebirthing is a simple, gentle yet powerful way tobring into awareness not only our unconsciously held beliefs and emotions but also the relationship we have with ourself, with our loved ones and our world. When we consciously breathe with this awareness, we make it possible to integrate and heal previously unresolved issues. This frees up energy, bringing greater aliveness and joy, and allowing us to move towards fulfillment of our potential as human beings.Rebirthing allows access to subconscious information that is beyond the reach of conventional talking therapies.
The two essential components of Rebirthing are:
Breath and Thought
Breath
Breathing acts as a bridge between the conscious and unconscious, between the mind and memories stored in the body. The breath is a mirror of how we allow life to flow through us and how willing we are to let go of the past and be in the present.
Thought
The thought aspect of Rebirthing refers to the idea that 'thought is creative':- Whatever we believe is what we attract i.e. self fulfilling prophesy. If we can govern our thoughts we can develop mastery in our lives.
By identifying negative unconscious thoughts we have about ourself, about others or about life in genereal, we can then experience our life without limiting restrictions. By taking responsibility for our experience of life we are then free to create the life we wish for.
Using the simplest of techniques we can enter altered states of awareness where the bigger picture becomes evident and where brittle beliefs, that no longer serve us, dissolve. By dissolving our limiting beliefs, the possibilities of who we can be and what we can do become limitless.
“Breath is the key to the mystery of life, to that of the body as well as to that of the spirit”.
